Deena Brown

Meet Deena Brown, an accounting major at Monroe Community College whose college journey reflects resilience, determination, and balancing the demands of parenthood alongside academics. Since starting college in 2020, she has steadily worked toward her goal of graduating this semester, returning to full-time enrollment to make it happen. 

As a devoted parent to her 3-year old daughter, Deena faces daily challenges managing childcare while meeting class participation requirements. With limited support at home, she has taken initiative by advocating for alternative assignments to accommodate her unique at-home situation. Her proactive approach includes seeking academic support, using organizational tools like planners and shared documents, and connecting with campus resources to build a supportive community. 

Though she sometimes feels like she doesn’t fit in as a non-traditional student, Deena embraces her identity and continues to push forward with determination and focus. Her academic journey does not stop here! Deena is now preparing to transfer into a four-year institution. Deena’s story is a powerful reminder that success is about perseverance, resourcefulness, and finding balance. We’re proud of all she has accomplished and wish her the very best as she moves toward graduation and beyond!
