Nastasjia Burke

Meet Nastasjia Burke, a proud member of the Class of 2024 at Uncommon Prep Charter High School and now a thriving freshman at her dream school, George Washington University (GWU). Nastasjia’s journey to GWU was no smooth feat—she spent what felt like an eternity on the waitlist. But her unwavering faith and determination paid off, and this last fall, she finally made it to GWU, ready to embark on her exciting post-secondary journey.

As a Public Health major, Nastasjia has already embraced the academic life at GWU. One of her favorite classes this semester is Criminal Justice 101, where she’s found inspiration in her professor’s dynamic teaching style. Her course load also includes Mathematical Ideas, a hands-on GW Teach class where she observes elementary students and designs lesson plans to meet her oral communication requirements. In addition, she’s taking First-Year Experience in Public Health, Exercise Science, and History of Modern Japan, rounding out a full, challenging schedule.

Nastasjia isn’t just focused on academics—she’s diving into GWU’s vibrant student life as well. As a former Vice President of UPC’s community, she has seamlessly integrated into GWU’s vibrant campus life by joining clubs such as Founding Scholars, Black Women’s Forum, Program Board Street, and the Yarn Club. Her advice to current students? “Socialize! That’s how you make great connections, especially when you want to be part of something bigger.”

With her resilience, passion for learning, and commitment to building a strong community, Nastasjia is well on her way to making her mark at GWU. Her future is bright, and she’s just getting started.
