Jasmine Bastien

Jasmine Emani Bastien is a standout political science scholar at North Carolina A&T who has consistently taken an 18-credit course load each semester while maintaining repeated placement on the dean’s list. She complements her major with minors in economics and criminal justice and holds membership in Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. On campus, she serves through the Political Science Society, the National Black Law Students Association, Global Legal Empowerment Brigades, HER Campus, and Noble Brothers and Sisters Inc. Her leadership extends to university governance through the Gibbs Advisory Board and the Student University Board, and she has engaged in international service supporting asylum seekers abroad through the Global Legal Empowerment Brigades. Her academic commitment and community impact have also been recognized through her selection as a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Wells Fargo Scholarship recipient.

Jasmine’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to justice, civic engagement, and policy reform. She has held competitive positions with Students for Voting Justice, Rally NC, and Action for the Climate Emergency, where she organized voter registration drives, led political outreach efforts, and facilitated student civic engagement initiatives across campus communities. Most notably, she completed a highly selective internship with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in the Pathways to Public Safety Division—standing out as the only HBCU student in an applicant pool of nearly a thousand. There, she supported the Alternatives to Incarceration Court, assisted Assistant District Attorneys, contributed to a reentry resource database, and gained courtroom exposure in both Misdemeanor and Mental Health Court. Now preparing for the LSAT while interviewing for full-time public service roles, Jasmine is also exploring opportunities such as the Columbia HBCU Fellowship as she charts her next step toward law school, public policy, and equity-centered leadership.
