Titicana Barros, Principal of Roxbury Prep High School – Maywood Campus and Roxbury Prep alumna, has been selected for the Heroes Among Us award, presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery, NBC Sports Boston, and 98.5 The SportbsHub!
The Celtics honored Titciana for her dedication to the youth of Boston, calling her a “shining example” who “instills a culture of joy and high expectations” to help her students achieve their goals.

In 2019, 94 percent of Roxbury Prep’s first graduating high school class matriculated into four-year colleges, and 100 percent of seniors took at least one Advanced Placement (AP) class, with 62 percent of these students passed at least one AP exam — compared with only 39 percent of public school students across the U.S. who take any AP exam during high school and 24 percent who pass an exam prior to graduating.
Titciana was recognized at the Boston Celtics home game on December 22, 2019. The award is a badge of honor given to individuals or small groups of individuals at every Boston Celtics home game since 1997.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Titciana was recognized for her role in creating a strong learning culture at her school. In November, she was recognized at the State House for her dedication to her community. The commendation was sponsored by Representative Liz Miranda, who tweeted about the Celtics award:
