Christina Anglin

Christina Anglin’s journey through college has been nothing short of inspiring, a testament to unwavering persistence and the power of intentionality. A 2019 graduate of Uncommon Preparatory Charter High School, she embarked on her college adventure at Lehigh University with excitement and determination. However, challenges soon arose, testing her resolve in ways she hadn’t imagined.

As a STEM major, Christina faced academic and socio-emotional hurdles even while she sought tutoring and other support in navigating this new environment. She struggled to find her sense of belonging and a community that would help propel her towards success. As someone who has a tight-knit relationship with her family, homesickness added to her trials, and despite her best efforts, she found herself on academic probation with a 1.2 GPA. This setback was particularly devastating for Christina, as a high-achieving high school student with unwavering ambition. Facing failure for the first time, she was left feeling uncertain of how to raise her GPA and achieve the goals she had set for herself. But if there’s one thing you can count on with Christina, it’s her determination to put in the hard work and see it through to the end, and that’s exactly what she did.

In the fall of 2020, amidst the challenges of the Global Pandemic, Christina made a bold decision to transfer to CUNY York College in the continued pursuit of her college aspirations. Securing her spot at York was no easy feat; it came down to a heartfelt appeal letter after facing rejections from every other CUNY she applied to, but again, Christina was not going to take no for an answer. With grit and renewed determination, she tackled her courses head-on, embracing a fresh start. Despite facing continued obstacles, including academic advisement concerns and the difficulty of her STEM classes, Christina pressed on, earning an impressive 3.35 GPA!

In 2021, Christina returned to her UPC family as a part-time intern while attending her classes at York. She plays an integral role in the heartbeat of our school community. Assisting with a myriad of initiatives that keep our school thriving, she supports everything from school enrollment and testing to ensuring smooth attendance tracking. Her dedication extends to supporting school-wide events, from Honor Roll celebrations to Report Card Conferences, supporting our students and their families. Beyond these, Christina ensures UPC’s facilities are always in top shape and stocked, while also lending her expertise to technology needs, supporting both staff and students. Christina’s impact ripples throughout the entire UPC community, and we are deeply grateful for all of her support.

This past summer of 2023, Christina pursued an internship at Devicka Persaud Medical Center, gaining invaluable experience in the medical field. Now, on the cusp of completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Christina is set to graduate from York College this spring, marking the culmination of her undergraduate journey. Looking ahead, Christina aims to secure full-time employment with an Uncommon school, aspiring to roles as an Office Manager or Math Teacher.

Christina’s journey serves as a poignant reminder that success takes many forms, and with dedication, ANYTHING is achievable. She steadfastly refused to allow her setbacks and challenges to define her, knowing deep down what she was truly capable of achieving. Christina serves as a powerful reminder that our dreams are limitless, emphasizing that it’s not just about the beginning of the journey, but the triumphant finish.

Christina, we are immensely proud of your achievements thus far! Your unwavering ambition and resilience inspire us all. As you embark on this next chapter, may you continue to shine brightly, knowing that your dreams know no bounds. Congratulations on reaching this milestone, and we eagerly await the incredible journey ahead!
