Say hello to Gigi Gebre Giorgis, a 2024 Roxbury Prep graduate and freshman at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA! Gigi has known she wanted to pursue a career in the healthcare field for some time, which motivated her to participate in the Harvard Med Science program during high school 2.0 and enter Emmanuel as an intended biology major on the pre-med track. As a college student, Gigi has learned a lot about the different opportunities that exist in healthcare beyond simply becoming a doctor or nurse. She is now planning to switch to Emmanuel’s brand new global public health major! While pursuing this interdisciplinary major, she is looking forward to exploring a multitude of potential career paths, including nutrition and dietetics or occupational therapy. Gigi is excited to discover the different ways that her passion for helping people improve and maintain their health can be applied both in school and after graduation.
Gigi has loved taking advantage of all that Emmanuel’s campus has to offer in her first semester there. She regularly attends all kinds of campus events and makes time to visit her friends at the other colleges of the Fenway, all of which are within a few blocks of each other. Gigi has been able to live on campus this year in large part due to the Fidelity Scholars Program. Fidelity is a last-dollar scholarship that serves historically underrepresented students from specific states, but it also provides wrap-around support including mentorship, financial education, and mental health support. As a part of this program, Gigi was able to attend one of her top-choice schools and live on campus without taking on excess loans and debt.
Gigi feels confident knowing that she has a whole network of support from her family, Uncommon, Fidelity, and Emmanuel that wants to see her succeed. She is excited to continue learning and growing as a college student as she continues on to next semester!
