Meet Your Alumni Success Team!
Brooklyn
Hi! My name is Sabrina Michel and I’m the Alumni Success Coach for Uncommon Preparatory Charter High School (UPC). I studied Criminology at George Mason University and I support all Uncommon alumni who are attending colleges across the Capital District, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Pennsylvania, Staten Island, and Virginia. One of my favorite college memories was taking a course called Serial Murder. It was hands down the most fun and interesting class—I got to literally unpack the minds of some of the most infamous serial killers in history. Our midterm assignment was to analyze a real serial murder case, and (not to brag)… but I got an A+ on it!
I’m Naliaka Wakhisi, the Alumni Success Coach for Manhattan and Mohawk Valley schools, based at UCC in Brooklyn. I studied Gender, Performance, and African American Studies (yes, all three majors!) at Northwestern, then dove into coding, design, and media tech at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program for my Master’s. I love this work because I’m genuinely obsessed with helping students tackle college’s twists and turns and celebrating when they cross that finish line. And if you ever catch me absentmindedly humming or inventing a song on the spot, don’t be surprised, karaoke is my not-so-secret passion.
Crismely Baez is an Alumni Success Coach at Uncommon Charter High School, supporting students in Brooklyn, California and the Midwest. She holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Diversity Studies from Framingham State University and an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Crismely has spent the past six years working in college access and success in Boston and Washington, D.C. and is excited to work with the youth of New York City. One of her favorite college memories is participating in a Black Student Union meeting where they learned about inventions by Black inventors and performed comedic skits recreating those moments. Crismely is passionate about helping students embrace their unique journeys.
Newark and Camden
Conheça a Amethyst! Amethyst se formou na Universidade de Syracuse! Ela será sua treinadora de sucesso de ex-alunos se você estiver cursando uma faculdade no Sul ou se tiver se formado na North Star WPHS.
Hi everyone! My name is Roydon Pellew, and I’m the school-based Alumni Success Coach at Lincoln Park High School in Newark. I graduated from Bloomfield College (now Bloomfield College of Montclair State University) with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Technology, and I earned my Master’s degree in Student Development and Affairs from Drexel University.
I enjoy being an Alumni Success Coach because, looking back on my own college experience, I didn’t have a go-to person to turn to when I faced challenges or obstacles. In this role, I get to fill that gap each semester for some very deserving students from Uncommon Schools.
If you’re attending—or planning to attend—a college in Northern or Central New Jersey, there’s a good chance I’ll be your Success Coach. Please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can connect!
Meet Ji’na! Ji’na is from Philadelphia and a proud graduate of Spelman College. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University. She is the Alumni Success Coach for South Jersey through the DMV region! She also works with students who graduated from Camden Prep High School.
Boston and Rochester
Hello! My name is Megan Lehr and I am the Alumni Success Coach supporting Roxbury Prep High School, as well as college students in Boston, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
I went to the University of South Carolina and got my BA in Anthropology and Global Studies. Before becoming an ASC, I worked in the college access and success space for four years working directly with students, as well as doing research on how best to support students to and through college. I’m really excited to use what I’ve learned to support and uplift alumni! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all – it’s what I’m here for!
Meet Angela! Angela is an alum from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a proud first-generation college graduate! A die-hard Eagles fan (Go Birds!) Angela works with students in Rochester and across Western/North-Western New York State.
My name is Marvin Herrera and I am this year’s new Alumni Success Coach/Enrollment Specialist. A fun fact about me is that I am originally from Southern California (Orange County). When I am not out exploring our nature (hiking trails/swimming spots), I am most likely cooking a bomb Mexican meal. I received my BA in Social Work from California State University, Chico and I recently graduated from the University of Rochester with my MS in Educational Administration: Student Affairs, Academic and Career Advising. My two memorable college experiences were being a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and joining Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc. I will be holding it down for our Rochester, NY Region!!
