Arroyo to BPDA: “Do the right thing”

  • February 7, 2020

In an op-ed for the Bay State Banner, Boston District 5 City Councilor Ricard Arroyo calls on the Boston Planning and Development Agency “to do the right thing and put the high school project on their agenda in February.”

In January, the Roxbury Prep community gathered on the steps of Boston City Hall to protest the BPDA’s delay in scheduling a hearing for a proposed high school building.

Students at Roxbury Prep High School currently occupy two buildings that are located five miles apart — in Hyde Park and Maywood. The facilities are wholly inadequate for our students, including a lack of appropriate space as well as the challenges that a separate campus poses on students’ academic success.

The high school project looks to build a single campus on a long-abandoned auto lot on Belgrade Avenue.
