Senior Signing Day at Roxbury Prep

  • May 26, 2022

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It’s a big day for graduating seniors at one of Boston’s charter schools.

On Senior Signing Day Thursday, Roxbury Prep students let their teachers and classmates know their plans after graduation. Students cheered at the Reggie Lewis Center as many seniors unveiled college T-shirts to the crowd, announcing their pick.

Stanaelle Celestin held up a Bowdoin College shirt on the stage. She has plans to become a psychologist and help members of the Black community improve their mental health.

“I am proud, attending Bowdoin this year,” Celestin told WBZ’s Mike Macklin. “Hopefully I’ll graduate in four years.”

For the school’s founder and interim principal Shrada Patel, the day represents a promise kept.

“For them to be able to stand on the shoulders of their families and each other, mostly. We are facilitators, but they had it all in them the whole time,” Patel said.

With the pandemic staining the past two years, high school hasn’t been easy for these students—but with that challenge survived, the future looks bright.
