Uncommon Partners with District Teachers for Second Professional Development Session

  • February 12, 2020

In January, New York City teachers from districts 18 and 5 gathered together for the second collaborative professional development workshop hosted by Uncommon Schools. As the six-hour session on literacy instruction began, the teachers were asked to think about Kobe Bryant the writer.

Celeste Douglas, the Deputy Superintendent of District 18 in Brooklyn, read Bryant’s 2015 poem, “Dear Basketball,” and asked attendees to think about what made the poem powerful and how they could bring out that type of writing in their own classrooms.
