Amari Glover

We are excited to showcase the inspiring journey of Amari Glover, a third-year Criminology and Justice major at Loyola University- New Orleans. As the only student from Uncommon Schools to attend Loyola, Amari has carved a path of unique challenges and triumphs, exemplifying what it means to be a trailblazer.

Amari’s choice to attend Loyola was a leap into the unknown, one that required her to step away from her usual environment and navigate around the stumbling blocks of being far from home. She acknowledged the difficulties she faced, taking pride in the resilience she has built over the past few years. Her experience underscores the importance of encountering discomfort to forge one’s path. She reflected “My decision to attend Loyola impacted my education and overall self-development by pushing me to embrace being uncomfortable. I knew I needed to discover who I was without the cushion of home and family.” When asked whether she would recommend other students to take similar steps, Amari responded that they should do it at their own pace. She elaborated by saying “I believe true development is found when you take risks, embrace challenges, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Going to an out-of-state school is a big personal, financial, and educational commitment. I am fortunate that my family entrusted and supported me in my decision, but it took me believing in myself to get to where I am now. Therefore, I would tell other students to trust themselves in their decision to pursue higher education, even if it’s over a thousand miles away.”

Amari’s academic achievements are truly commendable. Her recent fall semester alone she maintained a stellar 4.0 GPA, managed an impressive 23-credit course load, and once again appeared on the Dean’s List. Amari’s drive stems from her desire to keep busy and engage deeply with her academic and extracurricular commitments. Her approach, though demanding, has enabled her to excel academically, making her eligible to graduate early at the conclusion of her junior year–a remarkable feat that highlights her exceptional time management and dedication. Amari shared “As I reflect on the tribulations I’ve faced over the past 3 years; I am proud of the endurance I’ve built to continue my educational journey and matriculate into law school next year.”

In addition to her scholarly endeavors, Amari is fervently engaged in campus life and holds several leadership positions. As President of the Loyola University Pre-Law Association, Admissions Assistant at the College of Law, and a member and Senator of the Student Government Association’s Finance Committee, her involvement is as broad as it is deep. Amari’s internships at the Essex County Veterans Courthouse and the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office have provided her with hands-on legal experience and opportunities to support victims of violent crimes, further shaping her legal acumen. Her mentorship with the Presiding Judge at the Essex County Municipal Courts stands out as a pivotal moment in her professional growth.

Additionally, Amari’s commitment to service reaches beyond academia into the community. She dedicates her time as a crisis hotline counselor and plays a vital role in the Awareness for Sexual Assault Prevention Committee, demonstrating her dedication to societal well-being. Amari Glover is not only a dedicated student leader and caring contributor to her surrounding communities, but also a keen participant in the Alumni Support Program at North Star Academy and Uncommon Schools, taking full advantage of the academic, financial, and emotional guidance offered. Her unwavering dedication was highlighted at the annual North Star Academy’s Board Members meeting, where she eloquently discussed her personal and academic journey and the impact of her high school experiences on her collegiate success.

We congratulate Amari on her achievements and look forward to her continued success!
