Omotola Akinsiku

Meet Omotola Akinsiku, a first-year student at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, where she’s studying Public Health and living on campus. Omotola’s journey to Rutgers was fueled by the university’s strong offerings.

Starting her college career with intentionality and drive, Omotola embraced the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone, a personal goal she set for herself after a more reserved freshman year of high school. “I made the most out of it by putting myself out there — which is something I couldn’t really do my freshman year of high school.”

As a result, she is currently:

  • An intern at Rutgers University Press
  • Working as an ABA Behavior Tech Intern with Encore Support Services
  • Volunteering at Saint Peter’s University Hospital
  • Supporting Rutgers’ Baby Friendly Spaces as a volunteer
  • Serving as an Ignite Fellow Tutor with Teach For America’s IGNITE program
  • An active member of the Pre-PA Club
  • Participating in the Glamour Gals 2024/25 Club

When asked about her motivation for such an extensive array of involvement, Omotola explained, “I decided to get involved in these internships and extracurricular activities because they all had a social component, which aligned with my goal of becoming more connected and putting myself out there during my freshman year of college.”

Omotola demonstrates commitment and determination, both in and out of the classroom. From the start of her college journey, she has hit the ground running, proving herself to be a model of stepping out of one’s comfort zone, leveraging resources, and building meaningful connections. After a successful first semester, her goals for this semester are ambitious yet achievable: maintaining a stellar 4.0 GPA, continuing to seek opportunities, and deepening her involvement on campus.

Omotola Akinsiku is a shining example of what it means to take full advantage of the college experience. Her journey is just beginning, and her passion and drive suggest a bright future ahead. Keep inspiring us, Omotola!
