We’re so proud that Good Morning America heard about how our students feel seen and cared for and decided to spend the day with us at Uncommon Excellence Boys Elementary School to share the magic with millions of viewers. Watch the video below to see how we inspire our students to dream big and to love themselves, and hear their own powerful reflections about the resulting impact.

There was an equity gap. If you read or look at any data, most likely you're going to see black and brown boys at the bottom of that. Our job is to show what's possible and really disrupt that narrative.

This visit was inspired by a viral video posted in November by Performing Arts Teacher Ivan Marrero. In the video, he asked second-grade scholars to say an affirmation in the mirror on how they felt and what made them happy with themselves. “I was so happy that the rest of the world got to see how our boys speak so highly of themselves and are able to articulate what they love about themselves.” Marrero said.

Noel, Student
