The Excellence network includes Excellence Boys Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant, launched in August 2004, and Excellence Girls Charter School, which will open in the summer of 2009. Excellence Boys and Excellence Girls are committed to being particularly uncommon in providing a single-sex learning environment.

Excellence Boys, which posted exceptional results on the 2008 New York State 3rd and 4th grade English Language Arts and Math exams, has the unique opportunity to serve as a path-finder for single-sex education - particularly all-boys schools - at a time when the achievement gap between male and female students is both fast-growing and alarming. Excellence Boys cultivates in its young men the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to succeed academically, embrace responsibility, and become honorable citizens and courageous leaders. It prepares its young men to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college. Principal Jabali Sawicki and Co-Director Tim Saintsing jointly lead the school.

In the summer of 2009, Excellence Girls will open as an all-girls charter school, serving students in Kindergarten and 1st grade, and will grow to include grades K through 8. Excellence Girls will be based on the model of her brother school, Excellence Boys. The mission of Excellence Girls is to prepare its students to enter, succeed in, and graduate from outstanding high schools and colleges. Excellence Girls will be jointly led by Co-Director for Curriculum and Instruction Celestina De La Garza and Co-Director for Operations Samantha Tweedy.

At full capacity, the Excellence network will serve more than 1,500 students. This network is managed by John King, the co-founder and former instructional leader of Roxbury Preparatory Charter School.
